i’m still here!

I’m still here, just had a few pretty crazy days.  Lots of good things happening, so let me see what I can recall since I last posted. 🙂

I went to the Transfer Fair for Wake County on Thursday, just to see what’s out there and mix and mingle with some principals.  I was a little nervous, but I enjoy the interviewing part of the job hunt, so I had a good time and met some really great people.  With so much being in the air about budgets and school reassignments, I have to be safe and prepared for whatever could happen at the end of this school year.

Speaking of this school year, I’m so stoked to get to track out in a couple of weeks.  By the time we track out, we’ll have been in for about ten and a half weeks, which is almost two weeks longer than usual.  You wouldn’t think it would make that much of a difference, but it so does.

My kids are hysterical.  I have a lovely young girl in my class named Aileen, and yes, I do think of the song every time I say, write, or hear her name.  She was working in a small group with some other students, and one of them tried to get her attention.  Guess what he said?  Can you guess?

“Come on, Aileen!”

It was fantastic.

Also, this Friday was field day and we had a great day of fun outside.  We played all kinds of games, ate snow cones, watched movies, and generally had a great time.  It was a great Friday.

This week has a few things going on.  I have my final evaluation meeting on Tuesday, and we have a field trip and a concert rehearsal to watch on Thursday.  It’ll be a fun week, I’m sure.

Anyway, sorry I’ve been absent, but I hope you had a great week!  I’ll try to be better about getting something up a little more frequently next week.

Enjoy the gorgeous weather on this wonderful day of rest and I’ll catch you kids on the flipside!

So, I attended my first ever robotics competition today.

It was, in short, a really cool experience.

The teams are so talented and so pumped to be there, and there’s truly a sense of comraderie in the air.  The teams cheer each other on, and as alliances are formed, they really come together and it’s pretty amazing to see.

The team names are also fantastic.  “OINK OINK BOOM!” was the cheer of Exploding Bacon (by the way, they really want you to know that they have more bacon than the Baconator).  “OSCAR OSCAR OSCAR, OY OY OY!” was the cheer of Oscar the Grouch (Outstanding Students Creating Awesome Robots).  There were teams with names like Blue Cheese, Awkward Turtle, Robocats, Team Krunch, Flying Platypi, Clawbotz, Hawktimus Prime…the list goes on and on.

It was neat to see a different kind of competition, and I couldn’t help but think that somewhere in that room was the next Bill Gates, the next Steve Jobs…the future of our technological advances.  I thoroughly enjoyed the day.

In other news, I’m heading to a hockey game tonight with some of my favorite people and that’s pretty exciting.

I also finally watched The Passion of Christ yesterday, and it was definitely an overwhelming experience.  I don’t think it’s a movie one would claim to “enjoy,” but it was definitely an experience that I took a lot away from.  It was neat to watch with my parents, too.

I hope that everyone had an awesome Friday.  I’ll admit it felt odd not to get anything posted.  But this is a busy weekend, so I hope you’ll forgive me.

Tomorrow’s posting is iffy just because I’ll be busy doing stuff with my family, but if I can hop on to say a quick hello, I will.

Some of you who’ve been with me from the start of this journey will notice that I haven’t made my “Silver Linings” lists for a few posts.  That’s pretty much due to the fact that I feel able to write freely about positive happenings in my life now that I’ve had a period of disciplining myself to pull those positive things out of the day.  Hopefully you don’t mind the change too much.

I’ve gotta hop off here and get ready for the game, so have a great Saturday and a blessed Easter!

So there’s one more “day” of Lent, I guess, but we’re right on up to Holy Week.  I’m making it a priority to try to attend all of the church services Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.  I don’t think I’ve done that before.  Kind of excited, actually.

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. Today is Palm Sunday, and I had kind of forgotten how this service goes.  It was nice to enjoy it with two of the leading men in my life.

2. I forgot how awesome Life Savers are.  I mean, for serious, they’re delicious.  (Thanks, Sarah!)

3. I had a fabulous time last night watching great (though weird) movies with some of my favorite ladies, even though I was dog tired this morning because of staying up so late.

4. We sang one of my favorite hymns, “Were You There?”  That hymn is so beautiful!!

5. I’m wearing a top today that was given to me by the lovely Linda, and every time I wear this top I’m given many compliments on how pretty it is.  🙂

6. I’m planning on going to bed early, and I’m kind of excited about that.

7. So, guess who’s tied for first in their bracket pool?  THAT WOULD BE ME.  (Insane!)

8. Even though tomorrow is Monday, it’s a four day week, which is kind of exciting.  It also makes Monday a little easier to handle.

9. This is sort of after the fact, but the meeting that I mentioned on Friday turned out to be very enlightening.  I’m excited to see some steps being taken to hopefully help a group of women who definitely deserve help.  The cryptic stuff is sadly necessary at the time.

10.  And I guess that wraps up today’s list.  I hope you have a great day of rest, and I know it doesn’t seem likely, but tomorrow (despite being a Monday) could be even better than today.

Happy Sunday!  See you guys tomorrow!

Holy week is almost here!  That means our 40 day journey is coming to a close.

However…

I’ve quite enjoyed this process.  I have to admit, I didn’t think that I would follow through with it (as I’ve been prone to abandon similar projects in the past), but I’ve found the whole journey to be extraordinarily rewarding.  So I’m thinking that I’ll keep on numbering up to Lent, and then afterward, I’ll continue, but rather than count the days, I’ll give each day its own title.

My goal will be to continue updating this thing daily, as I find that it really has become an integral part of my day.  It’s almost like self-therapy.  Kind of cool, really.

So there you go.

Let’s get this day’s list going!

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. It is a beautiful Saturday in my neighborhood.  I hope it is where you are, too.

2. I totally spent some time watching ABC Kids this morning…I mean, That’s So Raven!? Seriously.

3. I get to spend this day with some of my favorite people.  Just hanging out.

4. This evening, I get to have breakfast for dinner!

5. I get to have said breakfast with even more of my favorite people!!

6. We’re going to watch movies and have an awesome slumber party.  For serious.  So what if we’re in our 20’s?

7. I came to library to post today and check out a few things…and there’s a kid with the coolest ‘fro ever sitting across from me.  I mean, his hair is red and curly and EVERYWHERE.  I wish I could rock hair like that.

8. I keep discovering more people who are enjoying this journey with me, and it’s so cool to think that something I really started for myself is becoming something that other people can enjoy.

9. Tomorrow is Palm Sunday!  It’s a way pretty service, and I’m excited about it, really.  It’s also sort of the start of Holy Week, which always gets me excited.  This is possibly one of my favorite parts of the church calendar.

10.  Check it out!  10 before noon!  I can tell this is going to be an awesome day, can’t you?  But no worries if today doesn’t turn out quite as awesome as you hoped–tomorrow can be even better! 🙂

Happy Saturday, loves.  Hope it’s a great one for you!

Happy Sunday, folks!

Let’s get right to it, k?

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. Even though the services this time of year run a little longer than usual (Litany + Passion = FOREVER), I really enjoyed listening to the Passion this morning.  It’s really incredible to think about the story of Christ’s crucifixion, and it’s pretty hard not to be moved by it.  Plus, the music is really pretty.

2. I was a lector today in church, and even though the first time I saw the passage I was to read was this morning when I walked into church 15 minutes before it started, I rocked it.  Yay for having a reading with no crazy names or cities, and very few -eths, thees, and thous.

3. It feels really nice outside today, though it looks like it might sprinkle later.

4. My daddy comes home today!!!

5. I’ll be heading to baby shower for a friend of a friend this afternoon, and I’m sure it’ll be lots of fun. 🙂

6. I spent a very entertaining hour or so in Bed Bath & Beyond yesterday with the lovely Sarah, and I don’t think it would have been as much fun with anybody but her.  We looked at and talked about things that are very exciting, but very new to us.  (Sorry for being cryptic, but a girl has to have some secrets, right?)

7. I’m still ranked 3rd in my bracket pool.  Just sayin’.

8. I think I’ve officially decided to watch The Passion of Christ, the movie.  I’m still a little nervous about it, and I’ve stayed away from it for fear of not being ready to watch something like that, but I think I’m ready to give it a shot now.  I’ll report back to you after I watch it and let you know how it went.

9. My boy traveled far yesterday and had a really long day, but he is thankfully home and safe and sound now.  I’m sure he’s sleeping hard, and I expect him to do so for a good while now.

10. Whether it’s raining, snowing, or the sun is shining; whether this is a great day or one you wish you could do over; no matter what this day becomes…tomorrow can be even better!

Enjoy your day of rest.  I’ll see you folks tomorrow!

It’s so hard to believe that I’ve been doing this little exercise daily for a month now.  It honestly doesn’t take long to put a few things up each day, even when I have to do it in pieces because of my schedule.  I do think this may turn into something that I continue on past Lent, simply because I think it’s healthy to do this.  I encourage you to do the same–if not on a blog, in a journal.  On Post-It notes.  Wherever you can, whenever you can.  Because, honestly, I’m not saying that I don’t still have stressful days, but making myself sit down and work through the good things in the day always puts my stress into perspective.

And we can always use a little perspective, wouldn’t you agree?

Let’s get going with today’s lovely list!

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. First and foremost, it’s a happy occasion when I get to see someone who is dear to me get married.  I’m so happy to get to be present for my good friend Melanie today as she weds her best friend, Nick.  I’m so excited for them! 🙂

2. Now, due to said wedding, can I just say I look pretty stinkin’ cute today?  I’m wearing my favorite pink dress, and I just feel pretty in this dress.  Doesn’t every girl have an outfit like that?’

3. Also, my hair is really doing nice things today.  Good hair days are always nice.

4. So, it’s flipping almost 80 outside right now.  Flippy floppies, shorts, and a t-shirt are totally going on after this lovely wedding.

5. I spent last night (and I good portion of the wee hours of this morning) being ridiculously horrible at Super Mario Brothers on the Wii with two of my favorite ladies.  It was amazing, though I was not.  I think not being good might actually make the process more fun sometimes.  We certainly burn more calories with all of the laughing we do.

6. My Daddy comes home tomorrow! 🙂

7. I painted my toenails yesterday, which makes wearing flippy floppies even more fun.  (I’m sorry, it’s just not fun to say anything other than flippy floppies now.)

8. I’m looking forward to spending more time with the aforementioned favorite ladies continuing to be horrible at Super Mario.  (I’m-a back!)

9. Just so everybody knows…I’m currently tied in 3rd in a bracket pool I’m a part of.  I’m pretty proud of myself…only 2 points separate 1st from 3rd, so I’m feeling pretty good.

10. And I think that’s a wrap for today’s list, though there’s still much of the day left and many more good things to come.  Just remember that at the end of the day if it wasn’t what you wanted it to be, tomorrow can be even better.

Happy Saturday!  Get out and enjoy the sunshine!

Happy Sunday, everybody.  Hope you’re getting to enjoy your day of rest.

Here’s how today is shaping up.

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. I taught Sunday School today, and even though it was kind of off the cuff, it went fairly well and I’m happy with how the morning turned out.

2.  I was reminded today that there are still teenagers with a healthy work ethic who aren’t afraid to work like crazy to get the things that they want.  Pretty cool stuff.

3. I sat and had wonderful conversation with a couple of women at my church who are dear to my heart.  They told me how proud they are of me for being a teacher, and it really kind of made my day.

4. It is actually quite beautiful outside today.  There is blue sky to be seen and the temperature is very comfortable.  Good things on all accounts there.

5. This evening, I get to enjoy spending some time with that special boy of mine and his family.  I enjoy seeing them, and I haven’t spent time with them in a while, so it should be a good time!

6. We sang a couple of really great hymns today in church, and it always makes my heart happy to get to sing beautiful songs about God.  Don’t you agree?

7. Although I didn’t sleep as much last night as I would have liked, I am planning on being in bed and taking a midday nap minutes after this post is finished.

8. I realized today that I have just over a month until my next track out.  It stills seems a little far away, but it’s nice to be able to put my finger on a time frame that isn’t 9 weeks away, you know?

9. Whilst enjoying my midday nap, I’ll be watching (read: listening) to Gilmore Girls, one of my all-time favorite shows.  (Ever.)

10. This day is shaping up to be pretty great, really.  But don’t forget that tomorrow could be even better.

Enjoy what’s left of your weekend, loves.  I’ll catch you tomorrow with the hopes of helping you through those “Monday blues.”

Today has been a lovely, relaxed Saturday for me.  I hope it’s been enjoyable for you, too!

Some of today’s highlights:

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. I slept really well last night.  That may have to do with my highly entertaining Friday night, but it was wonderful to sleep and wake feeling well-rested.

2. Although not quite the breakfast of champions, leftover pizza and birthday cake do make for a nice mid-morning meal.

3. I spent most of the day curled up on a couch with my parents watching movies.  Quality family time is so nice.

4. Bojangles makes for some really great dinner…I mean, seriously, fried chicken and biscuits?  Amazing.

5. I get to spend time with one of my favorite ladies this evening, and I’m excited to get to see her.

6. I forgot just how much fun going out with friends and dancing is–and it’s a great work out!

7. I’m teaching Sunday School again tomorrow, and my lesson incorporates American Idol.  Hello?  Amazing.

8. I think I forgot to mention the other thing that’s awesome about Bojangles: sweet tea.

9. My parents were kind enough to let me put some gas into my car…sometimes they act like they might like me or something.

10. Today really was a great day, but the cool thing is that tomorrow could be even better.

Hope you were able to spend some time with people you love today, too. 🙂

See you folks tomorrow!

I’m starting early, folks, because I’m having a moment where I’m afraid if I don’t write it down, I won’t be able to accurately describe it to you.

Happy Sunday, by the way.  This is shaping up to be a good one. 🙂

Today’s Silver Linings:

1. I am convinced that there is nothing better in the world than cuddling with somebody you love.  For serious.

2. Also, that special boy in my life made me dinner last night, and it was yummy, as always.

3. I will be heading to church shortly, and I love me some church.

4. I’m teaching Sunday School today, which always make the day interesting.

And I’ll get back to you about the rest after church, kids.  Have a fabulous Sunday!

~~~~~~ (Onward, Christian soldiers…) ~~~~~~
5. We sang one of my favorite hymns today in church (see above).
6. The kids sang the first verse of said favorite hymn, and it was abso-freakin-lutely adorable.
7. Sunday school was pretty awesome.  These kids are constantly surprising me with how insightful they can be, and we discussed some pretty heavy stuff today.
8. It’s always nice to have a strong boy to carry a 40-lb tub of kitty litter to your car for you.
9. Have you looked outside today?  I don’t know where everybody who reads this lives, but where I am, it’s gorgeous.  Upper 60s.  I’m wearing a dress today and I’m way comfortable.  Awesome.
10. No worries if today isn’t what you expected it to be, loves.  Tomorrow still awaits.
Have an awesome day of rest, and I’ll catch you kids on the flip side. 😉
It feels like ages since last Saturday, does it?  This has been a busy week, and I’m so glad to have a weekend to really relax.
Let’s get this going!
Today’s Silver Linings:
1. It is Saturday.  Always a silver lining in my book.
2. I didn’t have to get out of bed until I felt like it this morning.
3. It is absolutely beautiful outside today.  Hello, spring.  Nice to see you.
4. My parents are wonderful and bought me something just because they know I need it.  (I know you don’t like me or anything, but thank you!  :-))
5. I get to spend this evening with a very special boy of mine, which is something I haven’t been able to do in quite some time.
6. As I was going through some things this morning, an infomercial came on about hair plugs and people who struggle with hair loss.  I know I complain about all of my hair, but honestly, I’m glad I have it.
7. I am planning to head to Barnes and Noble’s very shortly simply to sit and read for a couple of hours.  (It’s one of my favorite past times.)
8. I don’t have to wear a jacket outside right now. 🙂  I love that!
9. Even though I’m feeling a little blicky today, I’m not dealing with my voice disappearing like I was.  That’s always nice.
10. And what a relief to know that there’s always tomorrow.
Not much else to put up for today.  Hope you enjoy your Saturday and I’ll see you kids back here tomorrow!
